He might have slept, he wasn't sure, didn't care. Nothing mattered except the warmth and wonder of pure peace. God, he felt good.

Beneath him, he felt Tess's gentle shove on his chest.

"You know, you weigh a ton," she murmured.

With a supremely contented grunt he rolled the rest of the way off her, tucking her under his arm. She snuggled against him, her fingers tracing a lazy path across his chest.

He needed to ask her if he'd hurt her when he lost control, if he'd frightened her.

She was humming softly.

He smiled. Guess not.

He ruthlessly pushed back the guilt, determined not to let it ruin the only blissful night he was bound to have for the next fifty years or so. He'd face hell tomorrow when he had to let her go. Tonight, she was his.

He had never realized until she entered his quiet little world how very lonely he had been. He wasn't looking forward to going back to it without her. For a secret moment, he imagined what it would be like if she stayed. A reluctant smile tugged at his lips. She would drive him crazy every day, bring total chaos to his ship and anarchy to his orderly world.

The smile faded. She would also bring laughter and spirit, light and passion—all the colors of life. He was going to miss her when his world went back to black and white and gray.

"You were right," she whispered in the dark, interrupting his increasingly depressing thoughts.

He squeezed her shoulder. "About what?"

She let out a sigh that would feed his ego for years to come. "It was perfect."
